About Sunderland Machine Works

A Few Things …I'm an engineer and a machinist who prefers to be designing and building rather than sitting in an office cube.  I have held numerous positions throughout my professional career that have included designing, building, and testing products for the industrial, medical, aerospace, and automotive industries.  I have always enjoyed crafting intricate, high precision components and assemblies.

It has always been my dream to produce and sell the products I design.  My passion for metalworking probably started when I was around 10 years old, my Dad let me experiment with his restored Craftsman 109 lathe, I was hooked.

Over the years, I was able to compile a few South Bend lathes and smaller import mills, but the fun really began when I was able to acquire my first piece of CNC equipment in August 2006.  The CNC equipment allowed me to build my machine shop business on nights and weekends, while working as a mechanical engineer during the day.

One day I stumbled across the numerous machined products that were being launched on KickstarterTM and after significant research, design, and prototyping work, the Sunderland mk1 pen was born.  I launched it successfully on KickstarterTM July 2015.

It is my goal to continue to design and build quality products for everyday use that will last for many generations.
